Steps two, three and four
After returning from a gorgeous, relaxing week on Mallorca we have taken the next three steps towards our move to Thailand:
Step 2
Started the vaccination process with giving a blood sample to determine which vaccinations are necessary. In my case this means checking which boosters from my last vaccinations from 2003/2004 are in order. In Pete's case it means checking what he's had at all - as Australians surprisingly don't keep records on vaccinations.
Step 3
Received my tax return for 2008 and 2009 soo quickly, thanks to the enormously efficient and helpful tax officer we got! Now we can buy the flights, yay!
Step 4
Planned the farewell party and invited all the guests for next Saturday - very important!! It doubles as our thank you party for all our helpers from the last move, which we hadn't managed to hold within the last 18 months... But it's never too late and seldom too early...

This time the move is done in little steps mainly by Pete and me, as I have more time now. Pete is actually quite busy, as he finally started his "Integrationskurs" - they sent him an invite while I was in Mallorca to start 3 days later. I am still marvelling at the fact that they expect people's employers to just nod when you go to them on a Friday saying "oh, from Monday on I will only be able to work half days for the next year, ok?"... well, Pete's already cottoned on that the so-called German efficiency is an urban myth (the only person upholding that being our tax officer *g*).


Schritt zwei, drei und vier
Nach meiner Rueckkehr von einer grandiosen, entspannenden Woche in Mallorca haben wir die naechsten drei Schritte unserer Vorbereitung fuer Thailand beschritten:
2. Schritt
Haben den Impfprozess in Gang geschoben und unserm Hausarzt Blutproben gegeben, damit er testen kann, welche Impfungen noch notwendig sind. In meinem Fall ueberprueft er, welche Booster zu meinen bereits 2003/2004 getaetigten Impfungen gemacht werden muessen. In Petes Fall prueft er, welche Impfungen er ueberhaupt schon hatte, da sie ueberaschenderweise in Australien keine Impflogbuecher haben.
3. Schritt
Habe soooo schnell meine Steuerrueckzahlungen fuer 2008 und 2009 erhalten, dank unseres hocheffizienten und hilfsbereiten Finanzbeamten! Jetzt koennen wir die Fluege buchen, juhuu!
4. Schritt
Abschiedsparty geplant und alle Gaeste fuer naechsten Samstag eingeladen - sehr wichtig!! Die Party doppelt als unser Dankeschoen fuer all die Umzugshelfer unseres letzten Umzugs, was wir in den letzten 18 Monaten irgendwie noch nicht geschafft hatten... Aber es ist ja nie zu spaet und selten zu frueh...

Diesmal machen wir den Umzug in Kleinstschritten und kriegen es hauptsaechlich alleine hin, da ich viel mehr Zeit habe. Pete ist aktuell allerdings ganz schoen beschaeftigt, da sein "Integrationskurs" endlich angefangen hat - die haben ihm waehrend meines Urlaubs eine Einladung fuer 3 Tage spaeter geschickt. Ich bewundere immer noch die Kaltschneuzigkeit, mit der sie anscheinend erwarten, dass Arbeitgeber es einfach abnicken, wenn die Leute am Freitag kommen und sagen "Hey Boss, bin ab Montag nur noch halbtags da, fuer die naechsten 12 Monate"... naja, Pete hat ja laengst begriffen, dass die sprichwoertliche Deutsche Gruendlichkeit wohl eher ein Ammenmaerchen ist (und unser Finanzbeamter das einzige noch lebende Beispiel *g*).
