Das A-Z zwischen Darwin und Cairns

• Atherton Tablelands - Die schoensten und abgelegensten Wasserfaelle vor den Toren Cairns
• Burke & Wills - Da die beiden als Entdecker fehlschlugen, eroeffneten sie auf dem Highway zwischen Cloncurry und Normanton eine Raststaette ;)
• Croydon - hier gab's mal Gold. Und ne Stadt. Jetzt noch einen Tante-Emma-Laden, der halb Museum ist.
• Daly Waters Pub - ein echtes Outback Original voller Memorabilia. Z.B. der halb-verrottete Hubschrauber vor der Tuer.
• Edith Falls - Regenwald, Felsenpool und der gruenste Campingplatz seit Cairns
• Flinders River - wo Pete und ich dem Krokodil begegneten
• Georgetown - auf dem Hinweg mit Lea im Strassenzug durchgebraust, auf dem Rueckweg mit Pete die lokalen Kneipenraritaeten aus der Naehe betrachtet
• Hell's Gate - Ende des Polizeibezirks Queensland und inmitten einer 'Strasse' mit aufregenden Flussueberquerungen
• Innot Hot Springs - wer haette gedacht, dass Open-Air-Badewanne im heissen Outback eine solche Wonne sein koennte? Im Mondschein ist es ein Vergnuegen.
• Jabiru - es GIBT einen Bus dorthin von Darwin! Lea und ich fahren aber mit 'Caveman' und Konsorten...
• Katherine - Coco's Backpacker und Wassermelonen
• Lawn Hill National Park - Die Schlucht in Katherine ist sehenswerter, aber der Campingplatz (Adel's Grove) ist so schoen, dass ich 2x da war, trotz der ueblen 'Strasse'!
• Murray Falls - am besten nachts ;)
• Normanton - falls Ihr noch nicht genuegend Respekt vor 'Salties' habt, guckt Euch das Modell des groessten Krokodils der Welt an! Und den beruechtigten 'purple pub'.
• Pyramid, the - Ein steiler Weg nach oben stand am Anfang meiner Reise zurueck nach Darwin mit Pete.
• Queensland - hab nur einen kleinen Teil dieses Riesenstaates gesehen, aber der war wunderschoen!
• Renner Springs - zwei nette Truckies luden Lea und mich zum Abendessen ein
• Sandy Billabong - in der Naehe dieses beruechtigten Tuempels im Kakadu NP verbrachten Lea und ich 6 Tage in der mehr oder weniger beschuetzenden Obhut unseres Rangers Daryl, der aufpasste, dass keine deutschen Touristen mehr von Krokodilen gefressen wurden. Oder von Moskitos. Oder ihre Fischkoeder verlieren. Unter Einsatz seines Lebens, naja fast.
• The Isa - schon der Schwyzzer in Katherine warnte uns vor dieser Outback-touri-Hochburg, aber es gibt einen huebschen Aussichtshuegel
• Undara Lava Tubes - ein genialer Campingplatz mit ausrangierten Eisenbahnwagons, eine Geburtstagsparty und eine interessante Tour durch Lavatunnel.
• Vanderlin Island - einer unserer Anhalter, Dutchie, lud uns auf eine Bootstour dorthin ein, wir fuhren aber nur bis zur King Ash Bay mit. Hoffe, dass es Dutchie gut geht.
• Wollogorang Road - die Strasse zwischen Borroloola und Hell's Gate, vor der Lea und ich im Heartbreak Hotel gewarnt wurden "fahrt niemals, niemals, niemals dort lang"...
• Yungaburra - am Lake Tinnaroo, wo ich zuerst Buegeln war, dann campen und schliesslich auf der Durchreise zum ehrenamtlich jugendarbeiten
• Zoo - am Strassenrand: Adler, Kaenguruhs, Kuehe... leider meistens tot. Oh, und lebendige Emus! :)

The A-Z between Darwin and Cairns

• Atherton Tablelands - the nicest and remotest waterfalls, just outside of Cairns
• Burke & Wills - because they failed as explorers, they opened a roadhouse on the highway between Cloncurry and Normanton ;)
• Croydon - There was gold here once. And a town. Now there's a convenience-store left, half of which is a museum.
• Daly Waters Pub - a real outback original, with heaps of memorabilia. E.g. the rottingchopper outside
• Edith Falls - rainforest, rock pool and the greenest campsite since Cairns
• Flinders River - where Pete and I met the croc\
• Georgetown - on the way there raced through on a roadtrain with Lea, on the way back stopped to marvel at the locals in the local
• Hell's Gate - end of the policed area in Queensland and half way across an adventorous 'road' with lots of river crossings
• Innot Hot Springs - who would have thought that bath-tub in the hot Outback would be such pleasure? Very nice in the moonlight.
• Jabiru - There IS a bus from Darwin! But Lea and I get lifts with 'caveman' and company...
• Katherine - Coco's Backpackers and watermelons
• Lawn Hill National Park - the gorge in Katherine is more stunning, but the campsite (Adel's Grove) is so beautiful that I had to go twice, no matter how bad the 'road' was
• Murray Falls - best at night! ;)
• Normanton - if you haven't got enough respect for salties yet, check out the model of the world's biggest crocodile here! And the infamous 'purple pub'.
• Pyramid, the - A steep climb at the beginning of my journey to Darwin with Pete.
• Queensland - I've only seen a little bit of this huge state, but that was wonderful!
• Renner Springs - two truckies shouted dinner for me and Lea here
• Sandy Billabong - near this infamous pond Lea and me spend 6 days in the more or less reassuring supervision of our ranger Daryl. Whose task was stopping Germans from being eaten by crocodiles. Or moskitos. Or from loosing their fish lures. He risked life and limb. Well, almost.
• The Isa - we'd been warned by the swiss in Katherine of this tourism-mecca. But they've got a nice hill with a view.
• Undara Lava Tubes - a perfect campsite with dereliq railway waggons, a birthday party and an interesting tour of the tubes.
• Vanderlin Island - one of our lifts - Dutchie - invited us to a boating trip, but we only followed up to King Ash Bay. Hope Dutchie is alright.
• Wollogorang Road - the road between Borolloola and Hell's Gate, Lea and me were being warned "never, never, never to go that way" in the Heartbreak Hotel.
• Yungaburra - at the lake Tinnaroo, where I first went to iron, then to camp and then to pass through on the way to volunteer
• Zoo - by the roadside: Eagles, kangaroos, cows... unfortunately mostly dead. Oh, and live Emus! :)
